The Mona Lisa (or La Gioconda was painted at the beginning of the sixteenth century by Leonardo da Vinci who is considered to be one of the most gifted painters ever. The painting depicts a woman with a beautiful, mysterious smile. She’s resting her left forearm on a kind of railing or an armrest. Her right hand is embracing the left wrist. She may be sitting in an armchair. In the background we can see a sort of fabulous view with mountains, forest and a river or a lake. The painting is believed to be a portrait of Lisa Gherardini. An interesting fact is that the Mona Lisa had been known mainly in the art world until 1911 when it was stolen from the Louvre Museum in Paris which made it famous worldwide.
