British or American customs you would like to describe.
In the United States we celebrate many different holidays with their own customs. Many of them are very similar to the Polish ones, for example: New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, Easter or Christmas. I want to describe less known holidays like Memorial Day, Labor Day and Arbor Day.
Memorial Day is a legal holiday that takes place every day on the last Monday in May. Memorial Day is in honor of the nation’s armed forces who were killed defending their country in war. It is celebrated with parades, memorial speeches and ceremonies and the decoration of graves with flowers and flags. Memorial Day is an indication or reminder that summer is on its way. This day is also the traditional day for people to open their swimming pools.
Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday in September. The celebration of Labor Day is in honor of the working class. Parades are held throughout the cities and towns of the US. It is also a signal to students across the country that school is ready to begin again!
Arbor Day is a tree-planting day to beautify towns or to forest empty areas of land. Most public schools celebrate Arbor Day in order to teach about protecting forests.
I think that those holidays and bounded up with them customs are very interesting. I’d like to visit the USA and see them on my own eyes.
