Recenzja "Animal Farm"

The author of ‘Animal Farm’ started to write it In 1943 and the composition was ready In 1944.From the beginning all friends of George Orwell expected difficulties with publication. The book was based on real events which took place in 1930s in ZSRR. Orwell knew that publication would jeopardize good relations between Great Britain and ZSRR.

‘Animal Farm’ is a novel, or rather a parable – next to the literal meaning there is hidden metaphorical sense as well. Understanding of this book is possible only if we notice connection between animals and real characters – Russians. This composition is an allusion to historical events in ZSRR and the animals we can relate to Soviet revolutionaries.

The story is set in Mr. Jones’ manor. He used to be a very good farmer. However, he got into alcoholism and from that moment he started to neglect a farm.

The animals claim that their farmer is exploiting them. They make a question: ‘Why then are we still in this terrible condition?’ and then they answer it: ‘Because nearly everything we produce is stolen from us by people’ and they try to find solution: ‘There, comrades, is the answer to all our problems. It is a single word – Man. Man is the only real enemy we have. Remove Man from the scene, and the main cause of hunger and overwork is gone for ever.’ The animals destroy the old order and force Jones to leave – at last the farm is theirs. In the beginning they try to live in a society in which they are all equal. They are building a new reality, but they don’t realize that they have lost on their way earlier passwords and ideas somewhere. This wonderful revolution, which was expected to give improvement of the way animals used to live, give in the end disappointment and totalitarianism: the pigs soon become the leaders and say that: ‘All animals are equal but some animals are more equal then others’.

It is well – known book. It is reading at school, so everyone must to read it. Because of that people don’t want to reach for this composition. However, I would recommended it to every person. The language of ‘Animal Farm’ isn’t difficult and understanding the meaning of this book is quite easy. What is the most important, the story shows us, how noble ideals of freedom, happy life, fairness equality are transforming into totalitarianism; how a communist society can fail when its leaders let down.
The author presented historical events in interesting way; he explained the rules governed in ZSRR, what can be the best lesson of history for many people.
I think this book is worth reading.
