There is no consensus as to the date and place of the first celebration of Thanksgiving Day, but the first certified celebration took place on September 8, 1565 at the site, which today bears the name of Saint Augustine, Florida.  Despite the scientific evidence it is traditionally believed that the first Thanksgiving was celebrated in Plymouth Colony in 1621. Previously, they moved from their homes in England and sailed to Holland (the Netherlands) to escape religious persecution. After the first severe winter, to start next autumn died 46 out of 102 persons who have embarked on the "Mayflower." But since 1621 years harvest was plentiful, the colonists decided to celebrate this feast along with 91 Indians from the tribe Wampanoagów (ang. Wampanoag), who, together with the chief Massasoit helped them survive the first year. The festival took more of the traditional English harvest customs, than the "celebration of thanksgiving" for Wampanoagów was the fifth of six traditional thanksgiving ceremony in the year . It lasted three weeks in the period between October 21 and November 11, 1621 year. Indians provided a feast at least five deer, the menu was not while cranberry sauce (for lack of sugar), potato cakes with pumpkin or turkey instead are given waterfowl (ducks, geese) . Pilgrims and natives communicated through Squanto, an Indian tribe Patuxet who knew English for his early contacts with British travelers. In addition to the feast, the feast also included a joint rest and fun colonists and Indians. They have not survived while no other reports of similar cross-cultural meetings in subsequent years. They are known only two descriptions of holidays: in the list of colonists and the book created 20 years later.
