W tym też stuleciu Nysa należała do ważnych śląskich miast, które znano z handlu i rzemiosła. W średniowieczu w Nysie powstało kilka szpitali i domów opieki ufundowanych przez Kościół. W 1417 roku proboszcz kościoła św. Jakuba Pudweck ufundował sierociniec, tzw. dom mendykantów. Zamieszkałe w nim sieroty musiały same troszczyć się o utrzymanie przez pobieranie różnych darowizn. Również istniała tutaj szkoła parafialna wymieniona już w 1300 roku.
