The highest building in Poland, has 42 floors. On the 30th floor at a height of 114 meters, is a scenic terrace. In the Palace of Culture there are 3,288 rooms. Skyscraper was built as a gift to the Polish Soviet nation. Originator of the project was Joseph Stalin. Architect LW Rudnev wanted that the office was in the Polish style, so he visited famous cities such as Krakow, Chelm, Zamosc, in order to gather the necessary information and get acquainted with Polish architecture. Rudnev and his team created five projects, the Poles chose the 120-meter building, but their ambitions were much larger, allowing them to construct a much larger building. Participated in the construction of approximately 3 500 Russian workers who lived in a specially built housing estate with a cinema, cafeteria, club room and swimming pool. During construction work accidents killed 16 Russians. In 1956 he began a series of suicide jumps from the terrace on the 30th floor, first jumped a Frenchman, after seven Poles jumped. On New Years Eve 2000 at the Palace of Culture has unveiled the second biggest in Europe, a clock, its four wheels have diameters of 6 feet. It is also the highest clock tower in the world.
