September 1st 1939, Germany invaded from the west and 17 days later, the Soviet Red Army marched in from the east. The new German-Soviet boundary, the so-called Ribbentrop- Molotow Line was established on September 28th. It left Poland split up with 73,000 Sq.Miles and 22 Million people under German control and 77,000 Sq. Miles with 13 Million people remaining under Soviet domination. The Katyn Massacre is one of the most barbarous international crimes in world history. It eradicated all of Poland´s intellectual class, which fell into Soviet hands. German troops advancing into the Soviet Union in 1941 discovered the killing field in the forest of Katyn. They announced the existence of these mass graves to the international community. President Roosevelt and Prime Minister Churchill labeled this to be an absolute German plot, aiming to discredit the war spirit of the anti-Nazi-Alliance. Thus knowingly, abandoning their most trusted and loyal allied: “Poland”. On April 13, 1990 Soviet President Gorbatschev in an unprecedented move, admitted to Polish President Jaruzelski, that it was the Soviet NKWD who murdered thousands of Polish POW´s in April- May of 1940. It was two years later that many of the documents concerning this genocide were turned over to the Polish Government. The open admission, combined with a listing and locations of the murdered Polish nationals in 1940 by the Soviet Union.
