Christmas traditions in England and in Poland. 1. Christmas cards The first christmas card was sent in London. People in England still write wishes on cards and send it to their families and friends. 2.Socks People in England hang socks for presents on the fireplace.   3. Santa Claus Children in England believe, that Santa Claus get into their houses through chimney. He puts presents into socks. Than he eats prepared cookies and drinks milk. In Poland presents are put under the Christmas tree. Here rude children get twig, in England they get coal 4. The most important day of Christmas 25th of December is a day, which people in England celebrate. They eat festive dinner. At 3p.m. whole familes listen to the message from Queen in the TV. In the afternoon they go for a walk. In Poland Christmas Eve is celebrated on the 24th of December. At this day people eat a festive supper, and then take part in a mignight mass.   5. Star. In Poland the festive supper starts when the first star appears in the sky 6.Decorating houses and Christmas trees In both countries people decorate houses and Christmas trees. Dominating red color is typical for England. In that country people hang mistletoe under the ceiling. Everybody who stands under that, has to kiss. It brings good luck. 7. Traditional Christmas dishes. In England people serve baked turkey filled with chestnuts. For dessert they eat the burning pudding with delicacies. They also eat nuts or gingerbread In Poland people eat 12 dishes. Some examples of them are borsch, carp, sauerkraut with mashrooms, poppy-seed cake, mashroom soup. 8. Carols. This habit is popular in both countries. In Poland common singing carols starts after supper. 9. Wafer Poland is the only country that divides the wafer. 10. Free table-ware and hay. In Poland people leave one spare table ware, for unexpected guest. Under table- cloth people put hay
