Tłumaczenie paragrafów do wstawienia: A - It was not until it had been accepted for production, and the scheduled start of rehearsals was only two months off, that I found an ending that satisfied me. - Do czasu aż tekst nie został zaakceptowany do realizacji, a do wyznaczonego czasu rozpoczęcia prób zostały jedynie dwa miesiąca, nie znalazłem zakończenia, które by mnie zadowalało. B - It can be a struggle, a transaction, a confession, a seduction, or all of these things in turn. - Może być to walka, transakcja, wyznanie, uwodzenie, albo wszystkie te po kolei. C - What used to be a bland conversation aimed at keeping everyone happy has become more probing and aggressive. - To co zwykło być mdłą konwersacją nastawioną na zadowolenie wszystkich stało się bardziej wnikliwe i szokujące. D - I decided that if I was ever going to write it, now was the time, and, as soon as I got back home, I put other projects aside and set to work. - Zdecydowałem, że jeżeli kiedykolwiek miałbym to napisać, teaz jest odpowiedni czas i jak tylko wróciłem do domu odłożyłem na bok inne projekty i zabrałem się do pracy. E - The interviewees are apt to feel wounded and betrayed such a treatment. - Osoby udzielające wywiadu mają naturalną skłonność odczuwania zranienia i wyjawiają (odrzucają) takie traktowanie. F - Printed plays, even by established playwrights, do not sell in large quantities. - Sztuki wydane drukiem, nawet te napisane przez znanych pisarzy, nie sprzedają się w dużych ilościach. Zadanie: ABOUT MY NOVELLA As a journalistic genre, the interview goes back to the nineteenth century, when it was imported into Britain from America, but it has enormously expanded its coverage and column space in recent times. When I began writing novels in the late 1950s, literary novelists were seldom interviewed unless they were very famous indeed, and nobody showed any interest in interviewing me until about 1980. Nowadays, the interview - not only in newspapers and magazines, but also on the radio, TV and even the Internet - is a routine part of the promotion of almost any kind of artistic production. The relationship between interviewer and interviewee has also changed over the same period. (7.1) B - It can be a struggle, a transaction, a confession, a seduction, or all of these things in turn. Interviewers want blood - the blood of new and personal revelations - in exchange for the free publicity they offer their subjects. They want to assert their own personalities, and to demonstrate their own literary skills. They can become minor celebrities themselves in consequence. (7.2) C - What used to be a bland conversation aimed at keeping everyone happy has become more probing and aggressive. The journalistic interview, it seemed to me, was perfect material for drama. (7.3) D - I decided that if I was ever going to write it, now was the time, and, as soon as I got back home, I put other projects aside and set to work. In my play, I raised the stakes by contriving that in its central scene the interviewer is unknowingly being interviewed by the interviewee, who is risking his own jealously-guarded privacy in the process. Writing (and frequently re-writing) the play was mainly a matter of embedding this action in a context of human relationships, and then finding a dramatic resolution of the issues it raised. (7.4) A - It was not until it had been accepted for production, and the scheduled start of rehearsals was only two months off, that I found an ending that satisfied me. The play, which was presented in Birmingham in February 1998, seemed to please its audiences, but not enough of the national newspaper critics, to ensure transfer to London, or to encourage a new production elsewhere. About seven-and-a-half-thousand people saw the play in Birmingham. I prepared the playtext for publication with no expectation that this would bring it to the attention of many more thousands. (7.5) F - Printed plays, even by established playwrights, do not sell in large quantities. From time to time the thought crossed my mind that I might try re-writing my play as a work of prose fiction one day. :)
Coś na wakacje :)
