Uniforms, yes or no

Coming from a public school with no uniform policy was very good, therefore I go against uniforms. Public schools should remain with no uniforms because of the word public. Public can have many different meanings but I describe it as ?being able to be free?. Uniforms can bring the school class and unity, but we can be in class and be united without the help of uniforms. Uniforms have only one look but wearing different clothes everyday brings a new look.
?Being able to be free? is the meaning I chose for public. Uniforms do not have any freedom. Uniforms feel very prison-like except uniforms look better than what they wear at prison. Being in prison is being behind bars. Being behind bars just gives no freedom. You are in one cell probably the size of an average house bathroom. Uniforms give this kind of feeling as if we are behind bars.
Unity is what the school usually have trouble with, but uniforms do not help. What does unity have to do with what we wear? Clothes are jus clothes no matter if everyone wears the same or different things. Unity depends more on the spirit of the students not in what they wear. If the students have no spirit for their school, that gives absolutely no unity. You can tell the difference if a school is united or not just by the student?s spirit level. For example, the school sports team needs a cheering squad. Besides their own cheerleaders, we need people on the stands cheering for their fellow classmates. Believe it or not the team does better with a better cheering squad on the stands than just two or three people watching and clapping.
I come from Fort Lee High School, a public high school with no uniform policy. This gave the students the free will to wear any, but appropriate, kind of clothes. Students in my generation like to have class and style in what they wear. The more money they spend on clothes was the class and style. Uniform only brings one or two types of style in school. If its two types, they are one, summer clothes, and two, winter clothes. For guys the uniform looks like suits and for girls it was more like they were going to a concert everyday.
In conclusion I go against the uniform policy for public schools. As I described my opinion in the previous paragraphs, uniform are just a no for me. Feeling comfortable going to school with a different style everyday gives a different look to others. Unity can only be done with the high school spirit level not in what they wear. Uniforms are a hassle to have for all students. Why make it harder for students to go to school when they already don?t have the mentality to go?
